He is accused of soliciting sexual favors, but one woman says it went further than that.

The woman, described as Victim No. 4, is a young mother. It was her phone call to the FBI 10 days ago that got Skweres arrested.

Detectives were convinced he was dangerous and that he had to be arrested immediately.

“It scares me a lot,” she said.

Marty Griffin: “Why?”

Victim No. 4: “Because I think if he was capable of what he did to me already then he could do more.”

The woman is afraid that if Pittsburgh Police Officer Adam Skweres gets released from jail, he could come after her again.

“He needs to stay in jail,” she said.

Marty Griffin: “For how long?”

Victim No. 4: “Forever if it was up to me because he’s obviously a sexual predator.”

According to police, Victim No. 4 was sexually assaulted by Skweres, standing in her home in full uniform on February 11.

“My heart was racing and I was telling him to, you know, I wouldn’t give in to his requests,” she said.

She said Skweres placed his hand on his gun. She was convinced he was willing to use it.

“It’s like the worst feeling in the world, just scared to death,” she said. “My heart was pounding and I was just scared.”

Marty Griffin: “Did you think you could die?”

Victim No. 4: “Yes.”

Attorneys representing the woman say Skweres should have been taken off the streets when Victim No. 1 came forward four years ago.

“Something should have been done,” Attorney Ken Fryncko said. “We’re better than to let anyone slip through the cracks and that’s what happened here.”

Skweres was expected to be released from jail Tuesday, but Judge Jeffrey Manning ordered a mental evaluation.

“The fact of the matter is it’s curable. There’s a lot of cancers that are not curable,” says her father, Mark Schoneveld.

But a crisis is looming.

“Methotrexate is the drug that is really in national crisis, and methotrexate is one of the main drugs we use to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common leukemia in children,” says Dr. A Kim Ritchey, a pediatric oncologist at Children’s Hospital Pittsburgh. “There are some hospitals that are probably going to run out in days.”

Hundreds of medicines are in short supply — 28 of them are cancer drugs that hundreds of thousands of people need – a relatively smaller number than the millions that take other drugs, which is one reason reserves are running low.

Also, drug makers have stopped making them because of low profitability of these now generic medicines.

“It’s probably more complicated than, that it’s just a low return drug,” Dr. Ritchey adds. “I know that there have been problems with supplies, with getting the ingredients to make the methotrexate. Quality control has been an issue. So I think there are multiple factors.”

So far, Children’s Hospital has enough methotrexate, with the pharmacy keeping close tabs on supply.

“So far we have been able to manage it,” says Dr. Ritchey.

For some other types of cancer drugs, doctors can make substitutions. But in this case, there are no alternatives.

“So it’s really kind of a national crisis and almost a national shame that we don’t have these drugs to give to these kids,” Dr. Ritchey says. “We’ll have to deny children life-saving treatment. That’s what we’re going to have to do.”

Congressional bills have been introduced to give the Food and Drug Administration more power to deal with the issue.

“It’s tough, but I have hope they’ll figure out a way,” says Mark Schoneveld.

The way, in the short term, is stepped up production from three companies that make the drug, and companies that stopped making it will be releasing their emergency supplies.

But how to handle the overall problem of these drug shortages for the long term is yet to be worked out.

Doctors say the little girl will have no chance at returning to a normal life.

Brian Donavich is facing aggravated assault charges. He told authorities his daughter was unconscious and barely breathing after he dropped her on the floor while babysitting.

“You may have observed in court, you may have seen that he was visibly shaken by this because of his long-standing position that it was an accident,” Mitchell Shahen, Donavich’s defense attorney, said.

Dr. Janet Squires, a child abuse expert at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, testified Donavich’s description of what happened at his Beaver Falls apartment does not match the child’s injuries.

She believes it’s case of abusive head trauma. Dr. Squires said the child is still on a ventilator, has blood on the brain, damaged brain tissue and had bruises on her neck – all from being shaken.

“She’s rendering the opinion that it was inflicted,” Shahen said. “And she’s totally ignoring what the mother believed was an accident and what the father said on numerous occasions was an accident consistently.”

Dr. Squires says the baby will eventually suffer from cerebral palsy and that she is already blind.

“In this case, he didn’t do anything that was criminal,” Shahen said.

Donavich is in the Beaver County Jail awaiting trial this summer. His daughter spent 30 days at Children’s Hospital is now being cared for at the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh.

It should have been a season highlight for the players. Instead, it was a sobering lesson in poor sportsmanship.

With just minutes left on the clock and Peters leading, WPIAL officials say Woodland Hills star senior Shakim Alonzo committed a flagrant technical foul by throwing an elbow. He was ejected.

An unidentified Peters player was also fouled and ejected for throwing the ball at the opposing team.

At that point, a heated Alonzo allegedly pulled away from his coach, slugging Peters center Gabe Pritz on the left side of his head, tearing ear cartilage that required 11 stitches.

“It was probably one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in a high school game,” says Peters coach Gary Goga. “Gabe had his back turned – of course – he cheap shot him – and that’s what it was – right in front of me.”

Woodland Hills coach Mike Decker was stunned.

“I just saw our guy was out of control,” Decker said. “I’m sick to my stomach over what happened, embarrassed – that’s not who we are, that’s not who I am.”

Gabe Pritz returned to the court, finishing with a game-high 30-points. Peters won.

Shakim Alonzo, 17, is facing possible misdemeanor assault charges. The Washington County District Attorney has not reviewed the case yet.

The 17-year-old honors student and multi- sport athlete already has a football scholarship offer from Cincinnati. He has apologized for the incident.

Woodland Hills players allege that racial slurs were made by Peters players on the floor, but a spokeswoman for the Peters Township School District says neither their coaches nor officials said they heard any slurs made during the game, but admits that something was said in the locker room and that it is being addressed.

That allegation and others are being investigated by both schools. WPIAL Executive Director Tim O’Malley said they will make their reports by the end of the week along with what, if any, actions should be taken.

According to officials with the van company, the incident happened near the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Columbia Street in Vandergrift Tuesday morning.

The school van was picking up Evangel Heights Elementary School students when something flew through the driver’s window and broke it.

“I already had three students on the bus and I stopped to pick up three more and they were just getting on the bus, getting on their seats and all of a sudden, ‘Bam!’

“My window shattered. Glass flew and hit me,” Janet Nichols, the driver, said.

She checked on the children who were fine. She had shattered glass in her hair that caused small cuts. Another bus came to take the students to school.

The bus window has already been repaired, but the question of what happened is far from answered.

The driver saw a small circle in the window before the glass shattered – likely caused by an object about the size of a pebble.

Vandergrift police are now handling the investigation. They think the window may have been shot by a BB gun.

But before his hiring, at least one psychologist determined that he was not fit to become a police officer on psychological grounds.

The city personnel and civil service department confirms that in September of 2005, a police psychologist deemed police candidate Skweres “psychologically unsuitable” for police work and Skweres was taken off the police eligibility list.

Skweres then appealed his rejection to the Civil Service Commission which ordered a new psychological evaluation in February of 2006. Skweres passed, was enrolled in the police academy and became a police officer later that year.

The civil service director Judy Hill-Finegan said she was restricted from commenting on the basis of the initial psychological rejection.

Skweres is currently in the behavioral clinic at the Allegheny County Jail awaiting his release on electronic monitoring, but on Tuesday Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Manning postponed that release pending the results of a psychological evaluation there.

Morton updated us on his off-season hip surgery and said that he has already pitched off a mound five times, and his only concern is getting his reps in and building up arm strength.  Charlie anticipates pitching in games in the first week of March and being ready to be a part of the Opening Day rotation.

We also discussed the addition of A.J. Burnett and what that means to the team, and Morton said he is really glad to have Burnett as part of the rotation because he’ll not only make the team better on the field, but he’ll help in the development of other pitchers.

Charlies also told us what clicked with him last year that allowed him to figure out the best way to use his electric stuff, and said most of the credit for that belongs to the coaching staff.

Since the last time Madonna was here, she’s sold more than 300 million records, making her the top-selling female artist of all-time.

“This is a big one. Obviously, we opened with [Paul] McCartney which it’s hard to top that, but this is up there. We haven’t done Madonna in Pittsburgh since 1985,” CONSOL Energy Center General Manager Jay Roberts said.

Madonna is coming back to Pittsburgh on her 2012 world tour. She will play at the CONSOL Energy Center on Nov. 6.

“My mom has listened to her since I was really little. So, she was always playing in the car,” Alissa Connelly said.

Earlier this month, Madonna was the halftime show at the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. Some students said that brought her to a whole new generation.

“Definitely, especially with working with younger artists of today that are very popular,” Molly Tuiet said.

Kevin Yacker said Madonna’s not his cup of tea, but there are guys in his dorm who are.

“Definitely the older stuff. The new stuff, nothing against her age, but I think she was better back in the 80s and stuff like that,” Yacker said.

Would the Material Girl have played in Pittsburgh if the biggest venue was the Civic Arena?

“It was a lot harder to sell across the street to bring a big act, but over here, we definitely have something that we can tout that everyone can be proud of,” Roberts said.

It certainly doesn’t hurt that other concerts have sold very well at the CEC and there is a buzz in the music business about playing Pittsburgh.

“All the sound managers that come in with the tours talk about how we did it right and how the acoustics are good and it’s easy to mix a show here and so that kind of thing is important too,” Roberts said.

Physical education teacher Joann Willey shouts encouragement, as they circle the playground. Minadeo is one of 14 area schools participating in Giant Eagle’s “Kids of Steel” program.

“The ones who want to go fast can go fast,” says Willey. “The kids who sort of want to stay at the same pace do that. The kids who are a little slower, it’s even good for them.”

In addition to exercise, the runners have another goal in mind. They plan to be ready for the Toyota of Pittsburgh Kids Marathon, a week before the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 12.

“Kids of Steel” encourages youngsters to run 25.2 miles over the course of 18 weeks, leading up to a final Marathon mile on May 5.

“You’re exercising, and when you’re running it’s fun, because you get to run with a whole bunch of kids that you know,” says third grader Isha Subashyvas.

They are also encouraged to try 60 foods, from a list of 100 healthy choices. As fourth grader Kamaal Thompson puts it, “I get in good shape now, and I drink milk all the time now. I don’t know why, but it’s good.”

The tactics they are using may shock you.

We’ve told you about Nigerian lottery scams before, but more scams are now originating from Jamaica.

They work differently than previous scams. Not only do they trick you into giving up money, but they use threats and intimidation to scare you.

“They start out friendly, but then one man when I told him to stop scamming to stop calling me, he said, ‘I’ll kill you,’” one woman said.

Postal Inspector Andrew Richards said Jamaican scammers can turn nasty.

“As soon as that senior citizen says, ‘I don’t have any more money,’ they can get very, very hostile over the phone. Very hostile,” Richards said.

These victims, who don’t want their names used, but who talked to our sister station WCCO-TV in Minneapolis, said scammers have threatened them all. The treats range from burning down their homes to even raping their grandchildren.

Let’s back up in order to detail how these scams start. Unlike many other scams, they do not begin with a letter.

Instead, they begin over the phone. It is not just one phone call, but many phone calls. They will call multiple times a day for a couple of weeks.

Richards said once your defenses are down, they tell you you’ve won a lottery. They’ll tell you in order to claim the money you have to pay a special tax.

One man KDKA-TV’s David Highfield spoke with used to work for one of the biggest scam operations.

“I told them yes indeed, they have won the money,” he said.

He would keep telling them they needed to pay more and more fees with the promise of millions of dollars.

They can be very nasty towards the end of the scam. When they start to realize the money is drying up, they want the victims to take a loan or extend their credit cards.

WCCO-TV traveled to Jamaica a couple of years ago. As agents raided homes of suspected scammers, they confiscated computers, cellphones and what’s called “suckers lists,” which are names of potential victims and their phone numbers.

For some people, the scammers have taken everything. One woman was scared she’d lose her home.

“I don’t have any money to send them. My life has been destroyed,” she said.

This past fall, five Jamaican citizens were arrested in Fayette County. They were suspected of running a lottery scam. That’s rare because most of the time the scams are conducted from Jamaica.

So, what can you do to protect your parents or grandparents?

Richards said pay attention to who is calling them and get them to let their calls go to the answer machine. He also suggested having a young person’s voice on the machine, which can help deter scammers.

Brian McCray, 24, from the Highland Park area of Pittsburgh, is facing a list of charges including, aggravated assault, receiving stolen property and drug charges.

He is accused of trying to run over two Pittsburgh police officers in Garfield and stealing a car.

The officers saw McCray in a green Honda CRV in the 100-block of N. Aiken Avenue. When they tried to approach him, police say he hit their marked cruiser and nearly ran over them.

The officers each fired a shot at the CRV. Minutes later, the CRV ended up in a Highland Park garage which was left open by accident.

“The police called me and said that the green car had gone into my garage and the man in the car ran away,” Mary Jo Dorsey, of Highland Park, said.

Police were on alert for the vehicle after a Zone 2 police officer saw him speeding in the Strip District at about 10 a.m. When the officer there tried to pull him over, McCray sped off and the officer did not chase him.

After nearly running over two police officers in Garfield, McCray was spotted coming out of a house in the 1400-block of N. Euclid Street before going back inside.

The officer who saw McCray called for backup and authorities set up a perimeter. The homeowner allowed police to search the place. A K-9 unit found McCray.

The duty weapons belonging to the officers that fired at the suspect were taken in for ballistics testing – a standard procedure.

A crew of four welders cut four beams at the top of one of the sections. The idea was to cut the two outside beams first, then cut the inside beams. At that point, they hoped the side they want to come down will barely stay in place.

They coordinated their cuts so it would not become uneven and break away on its own.

There’s not much left inside the 51-year-old arena. The sky boxes are gone along with most of the seats.

If all goes according to plan, the Civic Arena will be nothing more than a memory by the end of April or early May.

Flames were seen coming from the house in the 100-block of Chartiers Avenue just before noon Tuesday.

Fire crews quickly knocked down the flames.

Investigators believe someone set the fire in three separate areas – the living room, kitchen and on a mattress.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but there were two dogs inside the house.

A puppy in the basement survived. However, another dog in the home died.

Five tires were slashed in all. Four vehicles were affected. All of the vehicles were parked on the road.

Ryan Safka is charged in connection with the deaths of David Rizzo, Tara Schulz and Derek Phillips.

They were killed two years ago when the car Safka was driving plunged over a hillside off the Parkway West.

After the verdict was read, Safka taken into custody immediately. However, he will be eligible for home electronic monitoring until sentencing takes place on May 15.

A ruling was delayed earlier this month because Judge Jeffrey Manning said there was no precedent for using event data recorder evidence for determining speed in Pennsylvania and that he did not have enough evidence to rule.

Earlier, a State Trooper testified that the car reached speeds of up to 106 miles per hour before it crashed.

The only other survivor of the crash, Brenden Johnson, testified that he had little memory of the events leading to the crash.

However, he believed Safka was driving at 70 to 75 miles per hour before the car lost control.

The defense claimed the data is skewed and that road conditions contributed to the crash.

A vigil will be held for the victims at the crash site behind the Days Inn on Banksville Road at 6:30 p.m.

After talking with body shops, Lisa Mazzarese said it was determined that paint thinner was thrown on the vehicles.

“Yesterday, I went and the damage to my car alone is $3,200,” said Mazzarese, who needs to get a new lens, bumper and hood.

The paint is now peeling off of the cars and Mazzarese said about $25,000 total in damages was done in a matter of minutes.

Mazzarese told KDKA’s Heather Abraham, “My neighbor said, ‘Lisa, you’re not [going to] believe it. Somebody got your car.’ And I came around, and I saw the paint all bubbling up.”

Neighbors were hoping that the V.B. Club, which is equipped with outdoor surveillance cameras, may have captured the person or people responsible.

Adam Skweres has been in the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest since last week.

Judge Jeffrey Manning said Skweres will not be released into house arrest until he receives a report on the officer from a behavioral clinic.

Skweres’ lawyers had asked for him to be released from jail and to be placed on electronic monitoring from home.

He is facing charges related to bribing women for sexual favors. However, there are pending investigations involving drug allegations.

His attorney hoped to get his client out of jail quickly, but that’s not the case now.

“For the record, he had been reviewed by a medical doctor. I met with him all weekend. I do not believe he is a danger to himself or others. There [are] two search warrants that Judge Manning had referred to. That is true. There are reports that there’s some type of narcotic whether it’s crack cocaine or heroin. But, nonetheless it was out suggestion to this honorable court that he be released subject to an independent examination. Judge Manning made it very clear he is not going to be released until [a doctor] can evaluate Mr. Skweres,” attorney Phil DiLucente said.

According to the Penguins’ official website, goaltender Brad Thiessen has been called up.

Brent Johnson is not feeling well, which prompted the Penguins to call up Thiessen.

In 37 games with the Baby Penguins, Thiessen is 20-14-2 with a 2.88 GAA and is tied for fourth in the AHL in wins.

Last season, Thiessen set a franchise record with 35 wins and seven shutouts. He finished the year with a 35-8-1 record with a 1.94 GAA and .922 save percentage.

On Monday the Penguins recalled forward Eric Tangradi.

The Penguins take on the New York Rangers at CONSOL Energy Center tonight at 7 p.m.

The Rangers have won five straight games in Pittsburgh, and Sam says that is because they are a more disciplined, and structured hockey team than the finesse teams they have had in the past. A fact that Sam attributes to the coaching of John Tortorella.

Columbus forward, Rick Nash, is a hot commodity heading into the trade deadline and the Rangers are one of the front-runners. Sam, however says that the deal may not happen because the Rangers will have to give up established star players, and possible draft picks, which they may not be willing to do.

The Rangers are 28-1 when scoring first in games this season. Sam goes over the reasons why, and mostly places that praise on goaltender, Henrik Lundquivst.

Finally, we get Sam’s thoughts on the Penguins and how an outsider views the team. He considers the team to be one of the top teams in the race for the Stanley Cup if they have Sidney Crosby, but their outlook depends on the captain’s health.

The NHL playoffs are roughly two months away and the Penguins are currently sitting in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 71 points.

They are tied with the Philadelphia Flyers and sit just one point back of the New Jersey Devils.

However, any chance of closing a 10-point gap on the Rangers will have to start tonight.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season with the Rangers holding a 2-1 series edge.

Pittsburgh will be looking to shake off a bad performance against the Buffalo Sabres Sunday. The Penguins got off to a slow start and never recovered, as the Sabres rolled to a 6-2 win.

As for the Rangers, they are coming off a 3-2 overtime win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

Rick Nash tied the game with 1:33 to play to force overtime, but Derek Stepan sent the fans home happy just 22 seconds into the extra frame.

Marian Gaborik continues to lead the way for the Rangers with 50 points. His 27 goals are also a team-high.

Ryan Callahan is not far behind with 43 points (23 goals, 20 assists). He also has 11 goals on the power play this season.

In goal, Henrik Lundqvist is making a strong case for the Vezina and Hart Trophies with a 28-11-4 record to go along with a sparkling 1.77 GAA.

He leads the league with a .940 save percentage and seven shutouts.

Against the Penguins, Lundqvist is 22-14-5 with a 2.41 GAA and a .914 save percentage.

For Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin managed to get an assist in the game against Buffalo to add to his league-leading point total.

His 71 points are three better than Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux.

In 33 career games against the Rangers, Malkin has 15 goals and 12 assists. Eight of those goals came on the power play.

In goal, Marc-Andre Fleury’s 30 wins are just two wins behind Detroit’s Jimmy Howard for the league lead.

Against the Rangers, Fleury is 19-12-7 with a 2.79 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

On Monday, the Penguins recalled Eric Tangradi from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. It is unknown if he will play tonight, but he will be available.

This morning, the Penguins called up Brad Thiessen due to Brent Johnson not feeling well.

It was also announced that Brooks Orpik will not be in the lineup tonight due to an upper-body injury.

Pink Peppercorn and Morel Cream Sauce

Serves: 3-4
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
• 10-12 dried morel mushrooms, rehydrated in 2/3 cup of water
• 1/2 cup reserved morel mushroom water
• 1 Tbsp pink peppercorns, freshly ground
• 1 Tsp kosher salt

Directions:

1. To Rehydrate Mushrooms: Simply place the amount that you will be using into a bowl & fill it with enough hot water to cover the mushrooms. The rehydration process usually only takes 3-5 minutes. Many mushrooms such as Porcini have a very fragrant aroma, which will infuse into the water when rehydrated. This “mushroom stock” can be used to enhance soups, sauces, & broths. For this recipe we are rehydrating the mushrooms in about 2/3 cup of water, which will later be used to enhance the sauce.

2. Making the Sauce: Combine all the ingredients except for the heavy cream & salt into a small sauce pan & heat over medium for 2-3 minutes. Next add in the heavy cream & stir gently with a spoon. Allow this mixture to come to a boil, and then reduce heat to a simmer. Allow the sauce to reduce for 15-20 minutes or until thickened.
